ARTIST
Karl Lagasse was born on 4th April 1981, in Paris. He is the creator of the "One Dollar" sculpture and the trophy for the43rd edition of the Deauville American Film Festival. His career began in 1996 when he sold his first work of art in Anversa at the age of fifteen. A few Years later, in 2003 he had his first exhibition in Paris where he showed works that combine collage and painting, at the suggestion of Yvaral Vasarely, son of the visual artist Victor Vasarely.

He started carving in 2004, inspired by Les Nuits Blanches. From then on, he began to search for his own style, which led him to create the series of the "Buildings", "totem-works" made of various materials. That same year he left Paris and moved to Normandy. In 2006, the famous Brussels gallery Isy Brachot dedicated an exhibition to him.

In 2008 he returned to Paris to exhibit at the Espace Pierre Cardin with paintings, sculptures, photographs and the projection of a film about the creation of his work. In 2009 he created one of his most iconic works: "One Dollar", in which he expressed his admiration for the United States. For Lagasse, it is also a symbol of what can be done with just one dollar ("to do art with $ 1").

In 2010, he was chosen to represent Deauville (Normandy) at the  World Equestrian games: "Horsemania". The championship took place in Lexington (USA), Deauville's twin town. He created a sculpture for the occasion. After "One Dollar" he had an international success and during the Art Monaco fair in 2011 he showed another iconic work: "Cryptogram One".

In 2012, to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Cannes Film festival, he created a "Building", 2,80 m high and 60 cm long made of concrete, wood, glass and photographs featuring with Corbis, which was then exhibited at the Carlton Cinema Club. During the festival, the artists were invited to sign the artwork and to leave a message on it. These artists included: José Garcia, Michel Hazanvisius, Bérénice Bejo, Gad Elmaleh, Cuba Gooding Jr., Tim Roth, Matthew McConaughe and Zac Efron.
