ARTIST

Born in Paris in 1970, Kobalt is a versatile artist whose creativity ranges from electronic music to contemporary graphic art. He discovered his first passions, music, graphics and editing, at a young age and began working for various magazines, including the iconic Playboy, at a very young age.

It was in 2005 when he started working as cameraman that he discovered his passion for photography and the visual.

In 2017, Kobalt decided to sell his company in order to embrace the graphic art as a whole. A pioneer in computer-based generative art, Kobalt has sold more than 2000 and more works online and in galleries to date.

His artistic approach is unique, influenced by contemporary artists such as Banksy and Shepard Fairey for the bold use of humour, for the provocation and the anachronism, with a particular drive to make irony on the magazine covers, this style makes him always recognisable. His works usually refer to the pop and mass culture. In his work, Kobalt likes to highlight the excesses of consumers society, using symbols and brands to convey his message. Written and drawn symbols are used to create a world where is the lightheartedness to reign and rules are overturned. By Parodying the mass media on some formal aspects of our contemporary society, he tries to intensify the dynamic between the public and the author, objectifying the emotions and exploring the duality through different interpretations.

Despite the digital age, Kobalt chose to stay away from social networks in order to preserve a bit of intimacy. Today he uses every  digital tool available to bring his creations to life, he keeps expanding the borders of the artistic expression with a subtle blend of inspiration, innovation and humour.
