Artist

Unknown artist. A viewer admires the artwork “L’origine du monde”, painted by Gustave Coubert in 1866.

The painting was commissioned by the Turkish diplomat Khalil-Bey to Coubert, in 1866 but it remained in various private collections, including that of the famous psychanalyst Jaques Lacan until 1988. In that year it was exhibited to the public for the first time at the MOMA in New York. A few years later, it became part of the permanent collection of the Musée d'Orsay. This photograph was taken on the first day of the painting's exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay in 1995.

Due to the fact that it's a vintage photograph, it could be in non-perfect conditions, which means there could be some imperfections due to the time and to the use. Look carefully at the pics to be sure of the photograph's conditions.
