Robert Doisneau (Gentilly, 1912 – Montrouge, 1994) is considered one of the founding fathers of French humanist photography and street photojournalism. With his camera, he was able to capture the everyday life of the people living in Paris and its banlieue, telling the story of the city and its inhabitants with irony and tenderness but also with a deep humanity and participation.
Whether the photographs are commissioned or the result of his free wanderings in Paris, the artist's personal style emerges through his shots, which mix charm and fantasy, but also a freedom of expression not far removed from surrealism. These are images that capture moments of everyday happiness among ordinary people - such as the famous Le Baiser de l’Hôtel de Ville - and in which tenderness, sometimes veiled in melancholy, is mixed with a touch of the humour that is always present in his work.
